Grade 3 homework will be assigned weekly. I believe in providing you with opportunities for extra curricular activities and family time. The weekly format gives you some flexibility and provides your child with a chance to learn how to manage time.

Homework should not exceed 30 minutes each night. If you are spending a lot more time, please let me know as additional teaching on my part or a revised homework assignment may be necessary. Your child may also choose to do some work in Google Docs using the @ocsbstudent account. Just leave me a note in their HW notebook to indicate this so I can provide feedback.

Having a homework routine is important for success. Make sure you have a quiet area away from distraction.  If your child has "nothing to do", I recommend that they read aloud to you or spend time reading independently. It never hurts to practice basic addition, subtraction or multiplication facts either!

A homework bag with a notebook (and later a duotang) has been provided for your child. Please use it and return it every FRIDAY, even if it is incomplete. Just write me a note to indicate you're aware of the incomplete material. Thank you!

This week's homework:

Week of Sept. 3 to 6

Use the notebook in your HW bag. This week we just want to get some routines started. Set aside 15-30 minutes at most. Find a quiet place to work. Let mom and/or dad check your work before you put it back in your HW bag. Please return all items by Friday, Sept. 6. Thank you!

Language: Word Wall Words (WWW) this week: Our words are linked to Math this week. Did you know we're expected to write number words to nine hundred ninety-nine?! We'll start slowly because this is a short week. Here are this week's words:

one  two   three   four   five   six   seven  eight  nine   ten

Write these words out 3 to 5 times in your best printing. Use your HW notebook!

Reading Response - No formal response this week. Just make a list of the titles of books, and/or chapters in a book, that you read this week.

Math: Practice your facts for ten and your doubles facts. To remind you, here are a few facts for ten:  1+9=10; 7+3=10; 4+6=10. Doubles are: 2 + 2 = 4, 6 + 6 = 12, etc. I've provided a worksheet you can complete at your own pace or have someone time you if you want an extra challenge.

Check out the Doubles video song -- it's the one we watched in class!

Too easy? Practice how quickly you can remember your facts and then practice facts to 18, including subtraction. We're just trying to warm up our brains this week!

All past homework will be saved in the "Archives" section of this site.
